Bloomsburg's Bacher Wins Steeplechase at Cornell

ITHACA, NY -- Bloomsburg University's Mary Bacher (New Tripoli/Central Catholic) won the steeplechase event to lead the Huskies track and field team at the Big Red Invitational at Cornell University this past weekend.

Bacher's time of 11:17.71 was more than 30 seconds faster than the nearest competitor and also improves on her NCAA provisional qualifying time.

Connie Raineri (Gilbertville/Saint Pius X) also had an excellent meet for the Huskies who were competing against a largely Division I field at the event. Raineri was the first Division II runner to cross the finish line in the 400-meters, taking third place in a time of 58.61. She also came in seventh (26.39) in the 200-meters and eighth (16' 11.25") in the long jump.

In the women's 3,000 meters, Toni Zangari (Sunbury/Shikellamy) took third place in a field of 13 runners in 11:14.62. While in the 1,500 Sarah Bounds (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) and Michelle Jansen (Warrington/Central Bucks South) finished strong for the Huskies with times of 5:03.75 and 5:12.03, respectively.

On the men's side, Dave Sanford (Nescopeck/Central Columbia) took fourth out of 25 competitors in the 1,500 meter race. His time of 3:59.21 was first among Division II runners.

The Huskies with compete in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships this weekend in California (PA).
